how important is body butter?

Body Butters - Getting Great Skin from Head to Toe

Looking after your skin is super important, it is your body’s biggest organ after all, making skin care a top priority. Body butters are the perfect quick fix to keep your skin looking radiant and nourished for, usually, quite a few days at a time. A body butter is made of a variety of ingredients, usually with a type of wax or butter which provides intense moisturisation. The ingredients are then mixed together to create a thick cream which is very smooth which effortlessly glides onto the skin. You will find that they are the perfect quick fix to keep your skin looking radiant and nourished.

How to use:

  • Scoop out the product, keeping in mind that a little does go a long way and spread the butter on your body
  • Massage the product in using circular motions, then leave yourself to dry for a few minutes while it soaks in
  • Enjoy the rest of your day with some silky-smooth arms and legs!

Top tip: apply body butter straight after the shower to seal in much needed moisture. For intense hydration, apply your body butter just before bed.

Lasting Fragrance

Something that I have never really thought was important when it comes to body butters is the scent, however you don’t realise how long it lasts for when you’ve applied the butter! Choosing a body butter with a fragrance (ours are natural, nontoxic, and vegan!) that you like is super important, because you’re going to smell like it all day.

Top tip: if you want your perfume to last a little longer, apply a body butter in the morning (especially on the parts of your body that you spray fragrance on) for the scent to attach to. It will allow the scent of your body spray or perfume to intensify and last much longer throughout the day.

Relieving Dryness

This one is probably the most obvious one…our body butters are handmade with a base ingredient of Shea Butter. Shea butter is an emollient, which means it’s a moisturising treatment that can be used in skincare products to hydrate, soothe and nourish skin that needs a little pick me up! When you apply shea butter topically, the oils rapidly absorb into your skin, creating and trapping moisture. Along with relieving dryness, shea butter has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties, so when applied to the skin it may help minimize irritation caused by factors such as dry weather, as well as inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. As Shea butter absorbs rapidly, it may help with a quick relief for flare-ups.

Our butters are filled with hydrating ingredients such as Vitamin E oil and Almond & Apricot oil, which are perfect for those who want some serious skin hydration.

Removing Makeup

Ok…so we aren’t endorsing this, but we also aren’t not endorsing it…but body butters can actually remove makeup, and pretty well too! Apply a tiny bit of body butter onto a cotton pad and wipe around your face, carefully avoiding your eye area. Of course always be careful around your eye area and if you do manage to get any in your eyes, rinse it immediately. Saying that, it is rumoured to be good at removing even waterproof mascara, but again, be careful around your eyes!

Cuticle Oil?

This is a trap that I fall into, which is buying cuticle oil. I regularly get my nails done so I am hounded by my nail tech to apply cuticle oil, so before working at Sweet Cecily’s I would spend quite a few pennies on nice looking bottles with yummy smelling flavours, however you can imagine my face when I realised that all it usually is, is a type of oil with some flavouring. To save yourself some money, all you need to do is grab a tiny bit of your body butter and massage it into each cuticle. You will find that you have just the same results as a cuticle oil and the same yummy scent!

An Important Reason to Use a Body Butter… After Shaving!

Shaving can cause your skin to become quite dry, as it’s a form of exfoliating (check out our blog on exfoliation for more info!) which means it’s taking off a layer of dead skin cells. What’s more, if you use a shaving gel to shave, this removes some of the skin’s natural oils. Your legs only produce a very small amount of natural oils so they are super precious! Applying a body butter after shaving can minimise that horrible tightness that you can get right after shaving. A word of warning though; if you have cut yourself or you find that your skin is bumpy and irritated after shaving, go for a body butter that doesn’t contain much fragrance as this could sting and irritate your skin further.

As we mentioned earlier, our Body Butter’s base ingredient is Shea Butter. Shea Butter is known for its wide range of benefits such as anti-inflammatory, healing, emollient, and anti-aging properties.  As well as being a nourishing product, our Body Butters contain Vitamin E oil which helps protect your skin against free radicals (damage to our skin cells that causes our body to speed up its ageing process).
