Growing up, trying to understand what skin type you have can be a difficult thing. With the millions of products on shop shelves, it can be daunting to know what’s good for your skin and what may cause damage to it. This blog will look into the products that we have created focusing on oily skin, exploring where our ingredients are sourced and the benefits for your skin.
Witch Hazel Toner
Our toner is perfect for those with oily and acne-prone skin - compared to our Rose Water Toner which is better for those with dry skin. Witch Hazel is a botanical extract taken from a plant found in North America and Japan. Witch Hazel is an astringent, which is a liquid-based formula that shrinks or constricts body tissues, which simply means, they are skincare products which are used to remove excess oil from the skin, helping tighten pores and removing leftover makeup. The plant is a natural astringent but adding it to make a toner, also helps in moisturising and hydrating the skin. A benefit that you may not know about Witch Hazel is that it is free from an antioxidant called ‘Radical Scavenger’ meaning that it fights against cell damage from exposure to UV radiation and pollutants.
Other benefits such as it being soothing, anti-inflammatory, and containing antioxidant properties, helps in removing excess oil from your skin which can be particularly helpful for people who struggle with acne. Using it to focus on skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, Witch Hazel can help soothe the skin due to its itch relieving properties, so if you find you can get dryness on your face, it can help minimize flaking.
If you do have oily skin, the witch hazel toner can cut through excess sebum (an oily substance produced by our bodies sebaceous glands) and seal H2O into your pores, for a more toned and non-oily look.
Our Witch Hazel Toner comes in an aluminium bottle (which means it’s fully recyclable!) with an atomizer which makes it easier for anyone to add it to their skincare routine. You can use it by spraying it across your face or using some cotton wool to gently sweep it across your face (don’t scrub!). With the toner being in a metal bottle, if you place it in the fridge, you can always guarantee a refreshing and cooling sensation on the face.
Green Clay Face Mask
Naturally green in colour, our face mask not only makes you look like Hulk, but it also provides great benefits to your skin. Containing French Green Clay, our face mask absorbs into the skin, removing impurities, whilst stimulating blood flow to create a healthier and more glowing look on the skin. The reason it is widely known as French Green Clay is because of the traces of minerals that are contained within it, which are mainly found off the southern coast of France.
This clay is a natural exfoliant that gently removes dead skin cells from the skin, it leaves your skin looking and feeling soft, and moisturised. Green clay can help restore balance, providing you with a more mattified complexion, leaving your skin look clean and bright.
Before applying the mask, make sure your skin is clean, then mix our Green Clay Face Mask with an equal amount of water and mix to a paste. After leaving the product on for 5-10 minutes, rinse it off with warm water and pat your skin dry.
Tip: Using our Witch Hazel Toner to mix it with can provide even more benefits!
Face Mask Kit
There are three key ingredients in our Face Mask Kit, which are;
Bentonite Clay, Ground Oatmeal and Rose water. The Kit also includes an empty pot, a wooden spoon, a label, and full instructions on how to use.
You may have seen our previous blog on Bentonite Clay, in which we explain the wonders that it works when it comes to unblocking pores and preventing excess oil on the skin. As well as this, the minerals in the clay can help to draw out toxins in the skin which can help get rid of dirt and grime.
Ground Oatmeal contains 18 essential amino acids that all contribute towards healthy skin. These amino acids are absorbed into the skin when the face mask is applied, helping to heal blemishes, and promoting the repair process of damaged skin. The oats also help to soak up excess oil and balance out the level of oil in the skin which can help to reduce acne.
Rose Water is a natural floral water which has been used for centuries. It can be used as a face toner (like our Rose Water Toner) however, we also add it to the Make Your Own Face Mask Kit. The benefits of this are that it can reduce the secretion of oil from the skin and deeply cleanse the pores located on our face.
Our Make Your Own Face Mask Kits are great gifts or just as a personal treat.
It is often thought that when you have oily skin, you should steer clear of moisturising. However, this isn’t the case.
Moisturising the skin is beneficial to every skin type and especially those with oily skin. If you were to avoid moisturising, your skin would become very dehydrated and in time start to produce more oil. It is recommended that you cleanse, tone, and moisturise twice daily to keep the skin feeling refreshed and to prevent the skin from needing to secrete more oil to keep it moisturised.
An important thing to remember is that everyone’s skin is different, and we all react to skincare products in different ways. We would always advise doing a patch test on your wrist or behind your ear to ensure that you won’t have a bad reaction to any product before applying it all over the skin!
